Flight Instructor

Job summary

Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with Part 61, FAA regulations, FAA Airmen’s Information Manual, advisory circulars, airport operations, and Aero Elite policies and procedures. Schedule students, maintain records, and ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by each student in each flight course.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Perform flight instructor duties authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulations in accordance with the Aero Elite approved syllabus,
  • Ensure all assigned students understand and adhere to all aspects of Aero Elite’s Aviation Safety Program,
  • Responsible for accurately maintaining all appropriate records to include student training records, student logbooks, and computer records,
  • Ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by all assigned students as stipulated in the applicable syllabus
  • Initiate stage check requests for assigned students,
  • Ensure timely course completion of all flight students assigned, including completion of required paperwork,
  • Monitor the maintenance condition of aircraft, and inform Aero Elite’s management personnel of any required maintenance items,
  • File incident reports as necessary to report any observed safety violations,
  • Contact and meet with potential new customers,
  • Conduct tours of airport facilities and familiarize customers with Aero Elite’s policies, procedures, and flight training courses,
  • Attend administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings as assigned, and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Continuously meet the requirements to hold FAA Flight Instructor Certificate with Airplane Single Engine rating,
  • Continuously meet the requirements to hold FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot certificate,
  • Current FAA Medical Certificate,
  • Eligible to work in the United States (sponsorship not available),
  • No history of incidents or accidents,
  • 100 hours logged in Cessna 172 or Piper Warrior/Archer aircraft, and
  • Pass Aero Elite drug and alcohol testing program if required.

Required Abilities

  • Aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures,
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional technique in the classroom and in flight,
  • Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and related administrative and operational procedures and requirements,
  • Ability to work well under pressure in fast-paced and noisy environment while exercising sound judgment at all times,
  • Strong customer service skills, and
  • Position will require vehicle operation such as company aircraft and golf cart.

Productivity and Performance

  • Night and weekend work may be required, and
  • Maintain 80% pass rate for final review and stage checks.

Salary & Benefits

Wages are paid per hour for flight and ground instruction billed. Wages to be offered upon successful completion of an application with Aero Elite.

No paid vacation, sick leave, or medical/dental benefits associated with this job description. Eligible for discounted rental and instruction rates.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit in aircraft, simulators, or classrooms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms to control aircraft on the ground and in-flight. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or push and pull heavy aircraft. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
  • Position requires performance in hot and cold environments, and
  • Employees are continuously exposed to loud aircraft noise and aviation fuels and oil.
